The Paydirt-class exists because the Federation asked "what if we
just... carried more?" Two thousand one hundred sixty cargo capacity is achieved
through structural engineering that other empires consider irresponsible
— the cargo bay occupies over 60% of the hull volume. Zero weapon
mounts because the Federation considers guns on a mining platform a
waste of cargo space. Escorts exist for a reason, and ore in the hold
generates revenue that guns never will. The Paydirt doesn't mine
efficiently — it mines thoroughly, stripping asteroid belts down to
pebbles and hauling everything to market in a single trip.
