Lore
Named for the First Step incident — the moment Outer Rim scouts reached the galaxy's uncharted boundary and stopped, for the first and only time, because something stopped them. The First Step-class is designed to go back. Speed 2 on a capital hull is unheard of, achieved through engine arrays that consume fuel at rates other empires consider wasteful. The 1000-unit fuel reserve ensures the range to reach whatever lies beyond the boundary. Seven weapon mounts ensure that whatever stopped the scouts will face a different reception this time. Whether the Rim actually intends to build enough First Steps to try is a question their admirals answer only with smiles.
