Lore
In Voidborn cosmology the plenum is the conjectural substrate that fills what naive observers call empty space. The Plenum-class tanker takes the metaphor as a working specification: where lesser vessels carry fuel in tanks, the Plenum suspends it in folded volumes whose internal capacity exceeds the hull they are bolted to. Solarian docking equipment will not register a Plenum's load until a separate Voidborn calibration program is run, and on three documented occasions the Federation has billed a Plenum captain for fuel that did not appear on the receipt. Each captain accepted the charge without correction. The hull's adaptive shield envelope absorbs the structural strain of motion through compressed dimensional space, and the cargo manifest reads as a single field that is also twenty-four discrete reservoirs, depending on which observer is asked. There is no record of a Plenum needing the gun mount it does not have.
