Lore
The Marauder-class refines volatile gases into three categories
the Crimson Fleet cares about: fuel for the fleet, explosives for
ordnance, and chemical components for weapons systems. The refinery
processes run at temperatures and pressures that violate every other
empire's safety standards, which the Fleet considers a competitive
advantage. Two weapon mounts protect gas processing operations in
contested nebulae — the Fleet learned that losing a full cargo of
refined volatiles to a pirate raid is more expensive than the guns.
