Lore
Confederacy mining doctrine treats extraction as an engineering problem with an optimal solution, and the Excavation is that solution: dual mining lasers for maximum throughput, a pulse laser for self-defense, and enough remaining fitting capacity to adapt to site conditions. The engineering committee sized the fuel tank so pilots wouldn't have to choose between one more load and making it home — a constraint they classified as non-negotiable in the first design review. Mining regulations require extraction reports filed within 48 hours. The Excavation files them in real time, because compliance should never be an afterthought.
