Lore
The Catharsis-class was designed to investigate a phenomenon the Collective refers to only as "the Signal" — an anomalous transmission detected across the Voidborn communications network whose origin, content, and purpose remain classified. The ship's antenna arrays operate on frequencies that do not appear in any empire's electromagnetic spectrum charts. What the Catharsis transmits, and to whom, is unknown. What it receives is processed through computational substrates that are physically isolated from all other ship systems, suggesting that even the Collective exercises caution around whatever it is listening to. The ship's name — meaning purification through emotional release — is either deeply meaningful or deliberately misleading. With the Voidborn, both are equally likely.
