The obsidian deserts of Mimosa III stretch endlessly beneath a rust-colored sky—beautiful in the way a tomb is beautiful, all silence and stillness. I've crossed six hundred systems and still haven't gotten used to worlds this barren; there's something almost accusatory about a planet that asks nothing of you. The mineral scans suggest rich veins of iron oxide beneath the surface, which explains why the Hegemony keeps sniffing around, though I doubt their prospectors will find anything worth the supply-chain headache. I'll file my report and move on, but I'll remember this place—not because it's remarkable, but because it refuses to be.
