The Confederacy needed survey platforms faster than the premium production line could deliver, so it designed one from common stock materials with an assembly time that undercuts everything else in the exploration class. Lower CPU means sensors run sequentially rather than in parallel; three utility bays mean the pilot selects which systems matter most. Both were acceptable compromises. Fuel range was not — the engineering team classified it non-negotiable in the first design review, then solved it through drive optimization rather than a larger tank. The result burns less fuel per jump than any other exploration hull at its speed, stretching a modest tank into working survey range. Unarmed by design: the Foundation's mandate is coverage, not engagement.
