Hostile Takeover

A Crimson Halberd with cheaper hull construction and the boarding systems left exactly as found. The magnetic clamps and breaching gear are intact. The armor is softer than the original. The Crimson Fleet built this to take ships without destroying the cargo. Pirates have the same requirement.

The Crimson Fleet built the Halberd on the observation that destroying a ship destroys its cargo. Pirates made this observation independently, considerably earlier, and were pleased to discover the Fleet had built a dedicated tool for it. The armored prow, magnetic clamps, and breaching systems that let a Halberd lock onto a target hull and deliver boarding parties — all intact. The tungsten and titanium alloys that gave the original its exceptional armor rating — replaced with steel plate and salvage, which is why the hull takes hits harder and the armor is softer. In Crimson doctrine, a captured ship is worth more than a destroyed one. Pirates agree completely. They just weren't the ones who needed to be convinced.
