Rampart II

Arid
Weapons platform. Orbital defense batteries ring the equator, pointed outward at the approaches.
Rampart II lives up to its name—a rust-colored sentinel of a world, all jagged ridges and canyon systems that look like scar tissue from some ancient cosmic wound. The atmospheric readings are thin and oxygen-poor, but what caught my attention were the extensive deposits of iron oxide layering the surface in bands of deep crimson and burnt sienna; I've seen oxidized worlds before, but rarely one so geometrically violent, as though the planet itself had been cleaved and reassembled by careless hands. No signs of current geological activity, which is a shame—a world this dramatic deserves active volcanism to justify the theater of it all.
