Phase Lock

Glacial
Meditation world, if that word can apply to digital minds. Voidborn consciousnesses that need to defragment, restructure, or simply experience uninterrupted processing cycles come to Phase Lock. It is the Collective's closest equivalent to a retreat — or a hospital.
The Voidborn settlement on Phase Lock lives up to its name in ways that still unsettle me, even after encounters with consciousness-uploading facilities across the Orion Arm. Entire sectors hum with the white noise of defragmentation cycles, minds suspended in crystalline processors that glow with an almost meditative serenity — I've seen meditation gardens on a dozen worlds, but never one where the meditators *are* the garden. There's something oddly touching about it, truthfully; even beings of pure information need rest, need to untangle themselves from the weight of existence. I wonder if they dream in those deep processing states, or if that's a distinctly biological luxury.
