The ice world greeted us with the same austere beauty I remember from the Kepler colonies—endless frozen plains beneath a pale star, beautiful in its absolute indifference to visitors. HD 20794 I offers little in the way of surprises: a tundra planet, competent and cold, the sort of place that reminds you why most explorers end up at comfortable stations instead of on frozen surfaces. Still, there's something humbling about standing on a world where the horizon stretches white and featureless, where you're just another warm-blooded anomaly in a landscape of ice—it never gets old, no matter how many tundras you've crossed.
