The endless rust-colored plains of GSC-0017 I stretch beneath a salmon sky—beautiful in its desolation, though I confess I've seen similar iron-oxide deserts on at least four worlds prior. Still, there's something almost meditative about a planet so thoroughly committed to its own barrenness; no vegetation to disappoint, no failed colonies to document, just geology in its purest, most honest form. I spent the afternoon cataloging the mineral compositions and found myself thinking less about data and more about how much silence costs in a universe this loud.
