Touched down on Crosshaven II at local dawn—or what passes for it under that perpetually hazy amber sky—and I'm reminded why I avoid arid worlds when I can help it. The settlement here is functional but joyless, all dust-caked prefabs and recycled water rationing; the colonists greeted me with the enthusiasm of people who'd already seen everything the planet had to offer, which apparently isn't much. I've catalogued the mineral deposits for the archive and marked it for future survey, but I suspect my next visit to this quadrant will find Crosshaven II exactly as I left it: profitable, predictable, and thoroughly uninspiring.
