The rust-colored wasteland of Canopus II stretches beneath us like a discarded bronze canvas—another scorched rock orbiting an aging star, more desolate than memorable. Still, there's something oddly humbling about standing on a world so utterly indifferent to human wonder; it reminds me why I keep doing this, even when half the sector looks vaguely the same. The Canopus surveys are thorough if uninspired work, the kind that pays for fuel but never makes the story logs.
