The third planet orbits at a pleasant distance—temperate bands, abundant water, the sort of world that makes bureaucrats back at the Hub salivate over colonization permits. I've seen a dozen Algiedi IIIs before, give or take a moon or two, yet there's something almost defiant about its ordinariness out here, as if it's daring me to find it boring. Perhaps that's the real discovery: that after 600 systems, a perfectly habitable world still feels like a small miracle, even when I know better.
